Cardiff Rivers Group volunteers delighted by response from locals

16 volunteers from Cardiff Rivers Group cleaned the Taff Embankment in Grangetown today and were delighted by the support they received from locals. Photos of the event can be viewed here.
As the volunteers worked hard to litter-pick the riverbank, passing dog-walkers, joggers and cyclists all stopped to offer their thanks and delight at the work taking place. One local resident was so grateful she brought out drinks for all the volunteers and another gentleman offered the use of his tipper truck and strimmer on future projects! 3 passers-by also joined the group, to help out on future projects.
Group member, Louise Tambini said, “It really is very uplifting when local people are so supportive and grateful for our efforts and makes it all worthwhile. I am really pleased that we have gained some new members today”
Together the group collected 35 bags of rubbish, 12 bags of recycling, a carpet, bike, pram and duvets which will be removed by Cardiff Council.
The group are now busy gathering items for their next project. They have secured a large container for all their equipment, but desperately need to construct shelving and a ‘wader-drying’ area inside. So, members are scouring Cardiff for any unwanted wooden pallets that can be utilised for shelving. If anyone has any unwanted pieces of timber, nails, tools, ropes or pulleys that they would like to donate to the group, please contact Louise Tambini.
Cardiff Rivers Group formed in 2009 as part of the ‘Tidy Towns’ project: a partnership between Keep Wales Tidy and Welsh local authorities. Funded by the Welsh Government it supports the people of Wales to improve the quality of their local environment.
Cardiff Rivers Group are always looking for new volunteers, so if you would like to lend a hand, please contact Louise Tambini on 07824 504790 or e-mail louise.tambini@keepwalestidy.org
